i`ve only been to 2 readings so my selection is small but yet perfectly formed.... 1) primal scream 2000 (loaded was awesome) 2) daphne and celeste 2000 (funny, yet sick to see what goths were taking to throw at them) 3) greenday 2001 (i think they only played around 5 songs the rest of the time they were just messing around....really funny) 4) fun luvin criminals 2001 (cool as fuck ) 5) oasis 2000 (first, and last, time i got pulled out the front by security...i`m too old for all that now)

Nice to have another "old-timer" here, Mr Sebastian! Aah, the early-90s were some cracking festivals... sadly I slept through most of the Cramps as the PA was too quiet. But I've got a reasonable bootleg of the show, so I know what I missed!

Ahh the good old days!
Haven't missed one since '88 (not quite as seasoned as yourself) just wish i could remember half of what i've seen over the years, its all starting to blur into one big festival!
any other old timers around?

Aah, 1988 - possibly the lowest point of Reading's long history. Remember Starship? Meatloaf being bottled off? Bonnie Tyler? Actually, I slept through all of those, but Hothouse Flowers, Squeeze etc weren't exactly worth staying awake for, either... must dig out the photos from that year.

How could you forget! fortunately most of it has been seen off through therapy.
Just try and focus on the good bits now, The Wonderstuff, Ramones etc. and that truly epic bottle fight... spent more time looking over my shoulder than at the stage.

On a semi-related note, did any of you see the Pixies the first time round? Were they any good? Could they still be good?
It's just I noticed they were playing at the Move festival and £30 almost sounds like a bargain compared to what people on ebay are asking for the Brixton tickets now.

Mr S: yes, the Wonderstuff and the Ramones were great. And (ahem) Fields of the Nephilim. And that bottle fight was one of the best I've ever been in. Sad those days are gone...
Andy: Saw the Pixies in 1990 and they were simply stunning. Not sure I want to see them now, though the NME review yeaterday was gushing.

Reg: Tut tut, Fields of the Nephilim, goth tendancies coming out?
Bumped (literally) into Andrew Eldritch from the Sisters one year, he must have mini monitors for his goth-star stage posing as he was tiny. Not at all the dark looming figure you'd imagine.
Andy: Yeah the Pixies were fantastic, amps up to 11 that night!

my top performances would be
1.eighties matchbox b-line disater (2002)
in the carling tent they were amazing i stumbled upon them by accident and i been hooked ever since.
2. the darkness (2003)
I thought that this set was amazing the crowd was intraced and it was like a headline set in the middle of the day. pure rawk power!
3. ash (2001)
i wasent expecting much as id seen ash before and thought they were ok but the guys were on top form and the every lovely charlotte does make some nice vieiwng.
campsite performance
In 2002 i was sitting in green camp just drinking and enjoy the usal fun of the fetival when an asian dude dressed as brian may in full get up with clogs curly wig and fancy waistcoat came by clutching a ukulele and looking slighly worred the man wwho was with him said that they had to escape afetr the crowd where they came form were demaned that he not stop playing.we asked for a quick balst.
what we heard was note perfect versions of queen songs played on his ukulele. it was truely amazing after about five songs the crowd he had left behind started to aprach with them all chanting brian. he scarpeered never to be seen again well at least by me.
the man should headline the main stage!!

Cheers! Will definitely check out those old shows. I downloaded a few of the reunion songs and Kim Deal is drunk, missing notes and getting words wrong. It's quite funny. Those bittorrent things are about 25MB a tune normally but the sound quality is spot on.

The bittorrent link has links for SHN and mp3 (which should be smaller). the taperfriendly link is all SHN (most of the files are about 15Mb, as Pixies songs are quite short!)
