The Verve Rage Against The Machine Kasabian My Chemical Romance
They all look pretty likely to me. Over to you...

Hmm. Haven't heard any as yet (dont even have any ideas!)
The Police have been confirmed as headliners for IOW already though.

I think MCR are almost certain being the biggest kiddie rock act at the moment.
Franz Ferdinand's managers are Festival Republic I believe so I fear we may have them too.
Priest are doing Sweden Rock so I think we can pencil them in for Download.
And, as we say every year AC/DC would be the perfect finish, especially if we are gonna knock it on the head after this year. (oops that's let the cat out of the bag).

I'm sure that I heard somewhere that MCR are thankfully taking a couple of years off after they have finished this current tour.
I reckon, Metallica will have a new album out soon so expect them to pop up at Download or Reading/Leeds.
For some reason I think Rage Against The Machine are more likely to play Reading/Leeds than they are Download.
I would have said Foo Fighters, but they will be doing their own thing at Wembley, so instead I would say some overhyped indie darlings like The Pigeon Detectives.

I fear you may be right about someone like Pigeon Detectives...
Sex Pistols are in negotiation regarding the Isle of Wight (it's NOT confirmed, as you may read elsewhere) but surely, Reading would be more like their spiritual home if they're doing festivals? I'd like to think so - they were very good at Brixton Academy last month.

According to the isle of wight festival website the sex pistols are now confirmed, joining the police and kaiser chiefs as headliners.
Damn almost got excited there.
Could always work the isle of wight i guess, although i think this clashes with download... Bollocks!
ACDC and Rage would actually make the whole weekend worthwhile for me. Metallica and Priest would be blinding to see again. Bet none of them happen.
Christ i've gotten cynical lately
See you all down the front for pigeon detectives. Woop.

...Also...
Festival republic should have the sense to book some decent headline bands for the lower stages. After last years weak as fuck headliner on the lock up stage surely they've saved enough cash for some decent acts this year! Saw the Damned a few nights back and they could easily out perform most of the 'punk' bands on that stage (not that the damned are exactly punk...shit i've blown my point.) Oh yeah, McFly here we come.

RATM are playing the Rock Am thingys in Germany on the Download weekend so I reckon they will be at Download rather than Reading.

I reckon the Foo's could be a good bet, but whether they come back to the Uk after playing two sold out nights at Wembley on some rotating stage thingy in the middle of the pitch is doubtful.....

According to Blabbermouth AC/DC have a new album coming out in April. Sensitively titled 'Strap it On', so obviously a major change of direction. Sunday night? Nah, thought not.

....wow, that would be a serious contender for worse headliners ever! Reckon rage or metallica should be there... can't see them both playing download, but if they do then i'll just have to settle with having a fucking good time at download. Seeing as rage are probably doing download (rock AM reasoning makes sense) i'd go with metallica closing sunday night. Saw them at Wembely last year and fuck me if they were not stunning. Pity they can't write for shit really!

Blabbermouth sez that e-fessies are rumouring Metallica & Rage as headliners.
Could be I guess as both might wanna play to a wider audience than they'd get at Download.
I'm still holding out for Priest meself as they seem to be booked up over the whole Download weekend now.
Actually resurrecting Monsters of Rock at Milton keynes with JP headlining would be pretty awesome.
I can dream can't I?
Oh & that AC/DC rumour has been scotched by their management...bollox.

Reading and Leeds Festivals organiser Melvin Benn has confirmed in an interview with BBC 6 Music, as reported here on the BBC news site, that there are to be three American headliners.
He said the acts for the festivals, which will happen as usual over the August Bank holiday weekend from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th August, were 'in place'. Mr Benn let slip in the interview that, "Interesting this year is that, probably for the first time, in my memory, we're actually going with three American headliners."
eFestivals believes two of these American acts will be Metallica, and Rage Against The Machine. The third headliner could possibly be fellow Americans, The Killers.
We'll of course have all the details when formally announced, expected sometime in March.
He also confirmed the earlier eFestivals story that there will not be a sponsor replacement for previous backer Carling.
"I wanted it to be, as I'm sure fans wanted it to be, slightly less corporate," Mr Benn, the managing director of concert organiser Festival Republic, told listeners, "I wanted to reclaim the name Reading Festival and the name Leeds Festival. I wanted them to return to their roots, so to speak. I didn't want the events to be called after a sponsor. I'm not asking another sponsor to come in."
Taken from eFestivals.
I really hope its not The Killers headlining.

Taken from virtual festivals:
Three American headliners have been booked for this year's Reading and Leeds festivals, Festival Republic's Melvin Benn has confirmed.
For the first time in the history of the two festivals, all three headliners will be from the United States.
While Benn has refused to name the three acts, Rage Against The Machine, Green Day and Foo Fighters are the most likely combination. Outsiders could include My Chemical Romance, The Killers or Kings Of Leon.
Rage Against The Machine have been a long-term target for Benn, who told VF just before last year's festival that he would love to bring them back in 2008. The LA band reformed for last year's Coachella and are playing the Big Day Out tour later this month in Australia.
Green Day have a new album planned for 2008 and are a firm favourite with the Reading and Leeds crowds. They last played the weekender in 2004 and Benn later told VF it was one of the best comeback sets he has ever seen.
Foo Fighters are also huge crowd pullers and love playing UK festivals. They have headlined at least one major festival here for the last three summers, including Reading and Leeds in 2005.
Whether they make it a fourth or not, Benn has told the BBC that his headliners for the two August bank holiday events are "in place".
He said: "Interesting this year is that - probably for the first time, in my memory - we're actually going with three American headliners. I'm not at liberty to let you know who they are."
It is also the first time in nine years that the two festivals have not been sponsored by Carling, after Festival Republic and the beer company decided to part ways.
Benn is hoping to encourage fans to be more environmentally aware, following green achievements at his other festival, Latitude, which constructs its bars from reclaimed wood.
The Festival Republic boss is hoping to build on a deposit scheme on paper cups at Reading and Leeds, introduced last year.
He said: "At Reading and Leeds we put a 10p deposit on all the paper cups that we sold all the pints in. We had a 96% return rate on those paper cups."
...
Rage Metallica Green day Foo fighters(ish) ....christ I may actually go and see a headliner this year
