I hate these message boards they get clogged up with everyone adding pictures to their messages, endless polls that only have a few votes, avatars why?? and the entire board gets riddled with smiley faces.
I liked the old board as it was much better, you could just leave a message without all this fancy stuff
now it will be full of wacky people with their crazy avatars trying to show off

Well, I agree with some of those ponts, Stu - personally, I hate seeing loads of smileys. Avatars I'm cool with. But the old board, though I loved its simplicity was too limited in its appearance options. Plus I can use this as a mailing list on occasions, and I wanted the facility to have "sticky topics" and many of the other features associated with a "proper" board. Oh, and no pop-up ads...
I'll miss the old board, too, but I hope you'll give this one a try - it's the quality of the posts that are of prime importance, and I think this will encourage more posting. Stick with us, mate!

Now to some of us that is important. I've been posting on fat reg's festies for nearly 2 years now and I never felt so comfortable posting as I do now. And so what if there are now smilies and avatars and sigs and post counts? I give it a couple of weeks and everyone will be used to this forum, and happy with it. And are you calling me wacky?

And I rather like the fact that I can see how many people are users of the board by the number of registrations - I've always guessed at how many "regulars" there have been. And that you can see who's online at any point - especially good for sending messages directly - had a nice message-based chat with Mar this afternoon. Beat working, for sure!
I think Mar's right - people will get used to this. I'm used to it already.

I'm not convinced that allowing lame pics/smileys should be allowed. Stu is right about that.

People will get used to these boards... ive been using similair boards for a few years now and i can tell you they are a lot better compared to the old one. I know its simplistic ways suited many but people will soon pick up on how to use the boards. For one thing the layout actually makes it a lot easier and the forum takes hardly any time to load compared to the old one. Good job Mr.R ;D

I'm still more of a fan of text based (nntp) boards than this stuff cos it's so fast but these aint so bad. I like Avatars cos it makes for an easier way to recognise who is posting what and they give you individuality and community, which the last board lacked.

Nah dude your avatar is still broken.
I agree with Reg and Mar, its a nice looking forum, you know who are regulars and who only visit the forum once a year type thing. You can private messege people, You know when people you want to talk to are online, Avatars are cool, Pictures are also cool aslong as used for the right reason. for example people can show there festival pictures on the forum and stuff, no need for a link etc. And I cant see how a picture will annoy, if you dont wanna see it scroll past it.

Trigger. You're absolutely right! And hence another valid argument for seperate subject headings here too.....ppl will want to post their festie pics so we could have a section dedicated to that alone.

Already thought of that, Mar, and once the festival has happened, I'm going to make a section where people can post their reviews and a few pics if they have them. The other option is to use a "photo album" type service and make an "open" login for that so everyone can make albums to share their thoughts. That way, this site will become the best "community" festival resource on the web. Probably.
