Just back from Spain.
Flew in & out of Barcelona as I couldn't find a cheap flight to Barcelona then spent Friday watching Ryan Air coming in to land over the top of the stage...bugger. Ah well, never liked the idea of that air line anyway.
Flew in on Thursday & got the last train to Zaragoza with 3 minutes to spare. Came through the hills & as we approached Zaragoza came out onto a 'plain'...should have taken this as a warning, I have seen My Fair Lady after all. (not that I go in for musical theatre as a rule you understand).
Weather was in the 30s when I got to the site at 10 pm so sat up for a coupla hours of beer.
The next day started fine, up in the 30s again & both Thin Lizzy & The Nuge were awesome, Ted has rather bizarrely decided that what he does is in some way related to Motown!! Though sadly he didn't treat us to his rendition of Sam & Dave's 'Soul Man'...that really does have to be seen to be believed.
The idea of a reformed Lizzy appalled me but I have to say they pull it off, crucially they have not tried to replace Phil, John Sykes covers the vocals & does a pretty fine job without trying to impersonate. They don't pretend to be anything other than a tribute act & play only the hits. But any tribute act that contains John Sykes, Scott Gorham & Tommy fuckin' Aldridge is worth seeing in my book...may even pay to see 'em next time round.
Anyways, Ted had just finished an unrequested encore of 'Great White Buffalo', complete with 'culturally sensitive' Indian Headress & we were looking forward to Purple, Sister & Saxon to complete the day when a massive thunderstorm hit the arena.
My £15 Argos tent took the brunt with little damage but the stage was obvoiusly not so ruggedly constructed.
To cut a long story short that was it for the night & when we got up the next day we were informed that Metalway was cancelled too so no Rose Tattoo or Iron Maiden.
Now you might think I'd be disappointed by all this but the way I look at it I drank warm beer, ate some nasty food, got rained on & missed most of the bands I went to see...so, pretty well a standard fessie then.
Except I should be able to get me money back this time.
