Ok its not anywhere close to a festival but what the hell it was just as much fun!
After a very cramped train journey down we found ourselves in Birmingham. Next step was to find the NIA. This proved harder than first expected. In the end we just followed other people and hoped they knew where they were going. On the way in everybody was being searched, there were sepearte queues for blokes and women and, of course, the security bloke directed me down the womens line and i didn't notice till i was ahlfway through the queue. That guy was either a cunt or had a kinda cool sense of humour.
We had heard that Simple Plan were gonna support. As i'm sure you can imagine i was truly gutted when it turned out there had been a change of plan. There may be a little sarcasm there. Although better than Simple Plan their replacment New Found Glory still ended up being utter shite. I just feel that i should be able to make out a single word in a song ya know. The frontman said something rather funny though (i've already put it in another post - can you find it?) Other great things he said included 'lets see a circle pit' to which about 30 people in the centre middle jumped a couple of times then settled down and 'all raise your hands so we can take a photo' to which their was a sea of 2 fingers raised.
There was only a short wait till Greenday came on. Or more specifically untill the Pink bunny rabbit came on. Now hes usually funny but, perhaps due to the spliff a random person had handed me a few minutes before, this time he was especially cool. Leading the crowd in the YMCA could never be uncool.
Greenday were, surprsingly, 'kin amazing. Probably the second best band i've ever seen, only just tipped by Maiden. They're set was geared towards American idiot material, 8 songs from it apperaing in all - including the 9 minutes jesus of suberbia. There was the usual making a band onstage thing as well as the covers of Shout and We are the champions. At one point Billie Joe came out with a water pistol and got a young kid from the crowd to come up and drench the crowd, that kid probably saved my life as i was just a little bit dehidrated by that point. At one point Billie Joe jumped into the crowd and some scarly obsessive fans wouldn't let him go, when he got back on stage his clothes were all torn up. The only worse case of that i've seen was Iggy Pop at Donington, all i have to say is nail marks. Some seriously impressive pyrotechnics also make a show, when you can feel them before you see them...well its just kinda impressive. They brought the show to a close with Good Riddance. 'kin awesome.
