Yeah, I read that but I'm sure there'll be a catch.
Most big arenas in the US are corporate sponsored & so the best seats go as freebies to people who aren't really interested thus killing the atmosphere for band & crowd alike. Bruce Dickinson has ranted on this subject on many occasions.
I suspect that this is how Ozzfest will be sponsored i.e the kind of golden circle bollocks that killed Live 8 as a spectacle.
Personally I'd rather pay & keep the sponsors out.
No such thing as a free lunch.

Do you not think it was the shit nature of the artists at Live 8 that killed it? Aside from the bizarre inclusion of Velvet Revolver, only Pink Floyd (even more bizarrely) cut the mustard.
There's got to be a huge catch - after all, they could easily sell tickets, so why cut a revenue stream? They'll be taking money some other way. Premium phone calls to register for tickets, etc. Still can't see why it would be free, though...

Remember when Limp Bizkit did there free show at Hyde Park or Finsbury Park? everyone still had to pay postage on the tickets and then when they got there the Golden circle was in place so no one could see anything and the band had a break every 15minutes as it was filmed live for MTV as thats how they made there money for the show. So yeah im sure theres provberly a lot of ways for them to make there money back and to make but will be good if they can do it without effecting the quality of the Ozzfest show and the fans etc.

I'm pretty sure they'll be funding it through major corporate sponsorships and advertising rather than ticket revenue. An interesting business direction to say the least.

Ok from what i understand the reason that's its free is that last year they made a loss because they were paying the bands so much, system apparently were payed 300 000 dollars per show. As well as it being free this year the bands play for nothing. Dunno what bands will be willing to play for that much.....wait for the lineup i guesse!
