Okay, so it all started about 3 years ago at my first reading. A guy i knew decided (drunkenly i think) that Alan was the funniest name he knew (poor lad didnt get out much) and so he would make a game of it. This game goes as such:
The game is called Alan. One (foolish and usually drunken as it helps) person is picked to try and become Alan. Another person is the Alaner. The wannabe Alan puts a bucket/beer crate/box on his head masking his vision and protecting his brain. He/she is then spun around enought times to make someone fall over and pointed in a direction which he has to run in. The alaner chases him/her with a big stick and tries to hit him on the head. The object for the wannabe alan is to not get hit for an allotted amount of time - i find 60 seconds works and then he earns the right to call himself Alan.
Thats about it really but it's hilarious if you point them towards tents. Dangerous, but hilarious!
We have played this every year since and usually get a pretty big crowd of volunteers - usually to be the alaner not the alan!.
we even played flaming Knightmare Alan last year for those of you who recall cult tv show Knightmare. it was alan but a friend had to direct them away from the alaner. And we made the Knightmare helmet with horns and all from papier mache and set it aflame! Yeah, only played that one once for obvious reasons!
anyhow it was a good laugh and i suggest if you hear the far cry of 'ALAAAANNNNNNN' you come investigate the madness! ;D
Festichick.
