My reading weekend starts on thursday morning at about 9.45. We catch the train and as i'm only 30 mins down the road the train takes about 15 mins. Once we get there we ring the various people that are camping with us to find where they are. They are still collecting their gcse results meaning we have to wait TWO AND A HALF HOURS for them. We end up catching the bus down to the site. On the bus some punk bloke tells us that robbie williams has died of a cocaine overdose which we end up beliving all weekend . Rather annoyingly the bus drops us just by the holiday inn meaning we still have a beast of a walk. We end up in brown five with a big group of about thirty of us. Now it's time for the weekends festivities to start. after a bottle and half of tesco value cider (it's still alcahol i was just saving the blackthorn and strongbow for later) and quite a few cans of castlemaine i'm completly out of it. I remember going for walks and seeing a band with two acoutic guitars, trombone, trumpet and mini drumkit playing busted covers. The evening ends up with me passing out in a girl(now my girlfreind) i had met that evening's tent. Brilliant!
Friday
Wake to hear the sound rain pouring down. I remember i had put up my muddy jeans to dry and the fence and had left my only pair of shoes outside . We trudge into town to get more beer and return back at about 11.30. We hurry back to our campsite to put the beer back in a tent.
Everyone wants to see goldie lookin chain but in the end only a few off us(including me) got to see them. We get into the arena to find them playing 'guns don't kill people rapper do'. Now it could have been just me but i didn't think they where all together that good and strugled with the sound difficulties. 4/10
Next band i see is ikara colt. Now there is alot of polite head nodding while they play but no pit. Struggling with a early slot. I think they would have worked better higher up on the carling stage. 3/10
By this point my feet are killing m, i actualy thought i had trenchfoot. But i go back to the tent and put binbags under my socks to keep them water proof. By taking this trip i miss the (intl.) noise conspiracy, and modest mouse who i am told by all the people who saw them that they are amazing.
i return to the arena for the wildhearts who despite technical troubles from starts to finish put on an amzing show. highlight comes from ginger singing geordie in wonderland after all but his amp has failed. They are one of the highlights of the weekend for me. 9/10
I had planned to go and see pretty girls make graves and my red cell but my plans go nowhere. the next band i see is the hives. they are amazingly cocky but who cares they are brilliant sending the crowd crazy for walk idiot walk, main offender, die allright and hate to say i told you so. 8/10
I'm not into seeing ash but we end up talking to random girls by the ice cream truck.
me and a couple of theese girls head off to watch soulwax who are amazing sending the crowd wild over the classics. the new material like compute and e talking sounds amazing. It climaxes with 'too many djs' sending the pit crazy. 8/10
We make our way back to see the last 45 mins of the offspring and whilst walking through the crowd bump into a freind of mine. anyway the offspring are good but not as good as two years ago. But they are still fun and get the whole crowd singing along to them. 7/10
I get as far as i can away from the stage as the darkness take to the stage. Why are they headlinging, sorry if i offend the people who like them but it was funny when it was a joke but this is just rediculous.
I had planned to watch 2 many dj's but i end up back at the campsite and getting drunk. We try and get a fire going but to no avail because the wood in damp. Some freindly scousers offer to help us as they have a bottle of meth in their tent. One of the purs it while the other one was ment to light it after the flow had stopped. He doesn't pay attention to this and light's it immeadiatly sending the fire into the bottle. Everyone legs it as the bottle expldes, thankfully no scoursers (or anyone else for that matter) were harmed in the making of this fire. i can't really remember what happend for the rest of that night but it involved lots of wine i seem to remember which was strange because none of us even bought any wine. oh well.
saturday and sunday may come soon if i can be arsed to do it.
