Sad news for those of use who fought the NWOBHM wars.
The death of Thomas 'The' Vance is a sad day indeed. if you're under about 35 this will be hard to believe but for the likes of me he was at least as important as Peely.
In the days before digital, in fact before Channel 4 the Friday rock show was pretty well the only place you could hear proper metal, sadly, being on a friday I was usually in Tennyson Gardens (its in Lincoln) drinking cider...but its the principal of the thing.
He was the first man to play Venom on the radio & for that we should be forever thankful.
Donnington''s not been the same without a chorus of Vance is a Wanker.
RIP

Yeah - I was genuinely shocked.Like Peel he had one of those voices that was synonymous with quality radio broadcasting.Love or loathe what he played, he was always offering an alternative to the mainstream pap of the day.And who the hell's going to do the voice-overs for every TV ad for "Best of Metal"-type compilation albums now?
RIP, Tommy.
